Abstract

ABSTRACT

Nowadays, the mastery of science and technology is an important key for facing global challenges in the future. STEM approach is one of the current educational trends that are able to bridge this issue. However, this approach brings consequence, which is the need to modify the conventional curriculum into a context-based curriculum. This study focused on the process of didactic reduction of the OLED context for high school chemistry. OLED was chosen because it represents the integration between science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This study used Model of Educational Reconstruction (MER) to reconstruct the scientific content structure of OLED including its definition, components, characteristics and working principle into an appropriate content structure for high school instruction. The result of this study shows four ways of didactic reduction of OLED context, i.e. return to qualitative step, neglection, the use of image descriptions and the use of historical developmental levels. The result of the study is expected to be one of the curriculum contents referencethat can be used in STEM-based high school instruction.
