DINAMIKA LINGUISTIK PENGGUNAAN EMOTIKON DAN EMOJI DALAM WACANA TERMEDIASI KOMPUTER: STUDI KASUS PADA PENGGUNA SOSIAL MEDIA DI INDONESIA

Abstract


Popularitas emotikon dan emoji telah mendorong minat pengkajian dalam fenomena mutakhir ini, yakni penggunaan emotikon dan emoji dalam sosial media (di Indonesia). Studi ihwal emotikon dan emoji telah banyak dilakukan dan umumnya mengadopsi beragam perspektif dan paradigma. Studi linguistik berkonsentrasi pada analisis peran emotikon dan emoji dalam dikotomi ujaran verbal-tulis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjembatani disparitas teoretis dan memberikan tinjauan yang komprehensif tetapi spesifik, yakni ihwal penggunaan emotikon dan emoji oleh pengguna sosial media di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif-kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (a) secara analisis grafis dan morfologis, struktur emotikon dan emoji dipandang sebagai unit seperti piktogram yang dibentuk dengan alfagram dan topogram yang memiliki fungsi khas dan signifikatif serta hubungan yang dikondisikan secara visual; (b) emotikon dan emoji setidaknya memiliki dua fungsi linguistis dan komunikasi yang berbeda, yakni fungsi non-verbal dan fungsi verbal; dan (c) emotikon dan emoji non-verbal mengekspresikan elemen paralinguistik atau non-verbal. Kesemuanya tidak diucapkan, tetapi diekspresikan melalui perangkat non-verbal, seperti pantomim, gerakan, dan intonasi. Terdapat empat fungsi utama dari emotikon dan emoji nonverbal dalam kalimat, yakni penambah elemen para-verbal ke dalam pesan, redundansi, antifrasa, dan penanda sintaksis.
